A look inside CPP Skate club’s “Club Tapes vol. 3”

Skaters attending Cal Poly Pomona came together during the 2025-2026 school year to film the third annual “Club Tapes” video, led by president of the club, Brandon “Bogie” Bocanegra. Students hit the streets of Pomona, Los Angeles and other surrounding cities to build community and express themselves.

During this time, I had the opportunity to photograph and film some amazing local skaters. I built my own relationships and befriended people who are now some of my closest friends.

This small collection of photographs gives an look into inside jokes, backstories on tricks and special memories from this past year of filming.

Shaka's rocket

“This a grown man spot” was the consensus after we drove out to take a look and try it out, only to find out John Fitzgerald made it look a whole lot smaller on video. Shaka and Bogie called this the most rocketed kickflip of all time.

What skateboards?

After filming multiple clips off of this on-ramp, a cop came and asked if we were skateboarding. The response was “no officer what skateboards?” as we got into the car, the officer was chill though.

"I pulled a Bogie"

After Shaka landed the trick, Bogie told him “I just missed the landing” (something I have done multiple times). Now whenever I mess up a shot, I call it “pulling a Bogie” to mess with him

I've been here before!

After showing up to this spot I realized it was the first spot I ever took photos for on a real session. Although showing up here with three people was way more difficult than with a group of professionals and dedicated spotters

Is this even worth it?

On almost every session I've skated with Ian Patton, he’s asked if a trick he’s doing looks cool, I wonder why he always asks that because every trick he’s done has looked cool to me.

My favorite session

The day I took this photo of Christian Cordova was the first day I introduced Christian to Shaka. They instantly hit it off and became my favorite duo to film with. Ryan Paja also got a concussion this day after watching them play a game of skate which made it even more memorable.

You just made the next T-Funk

When Juan Cisneros was attempting a tre flip to hill-bomb in Pasadena, a mother and her son from one of the houses down the street stopped to watch until he made it down the hill, the kid kept asking why he was doing it and was stoked when Juan made it down.

Circled the block

This was the last trick on the last spot of the session, we drove around looking for a white pillar with trees behind it only to find out it was burned and spray-painted black.

You ate there too?

I wasn’t sure if Gael liked me during our first session together but we ended up bonding over a pancake restaurant in Solvang.

Get the fuck back

On the last session I was shooting for the video, we piled into two cars and skated the entire Claremont Village. I kept getting in Bogies way, so by the end of it I was shooting on a 50mm lens on the opposite side of the camera

I hate this trick

Shaka came here at least four different times to get a nose slide flip out, this spot killed my favorite board to photograph and had Shaka on his knees.

"He has CTE for sure"

Anytime Nolen Johnson skates he takes the hardest slams possible for no reason. We spent all semester at the eight stair for his ender
